Mission Statement of the League of Women Voters & Community Recycling Committee

The mission of the League of Women Voters Recycling Committee is to work together with government, business, and community members to identify and implement solutions to our community's recycling needs. Since a lot of what is not recycled ends up in landfills, oceans, trees it is almost an "invisible" sustainable issue and this issue needs to be brought forcefully to the attention of all. Specific goals include

- Educating various sectors of the Estes Valley community about recycling issues.

- Have the town and Larimer county develop a comprehensive plan for recycling, incorporating a comprehensive new drop-off facility, weekly curbside pick-up for all residents and a "pay as you throw" program for trash.

- Have the town develop specific and viable solutions to recycling cardboard, especially from local businesses, in Estes Park.

- Assist in coordinating an effort to create and operate the new recycling center in Estes Park.

- Have the town adopt an ordinance that bans plastic bags and requires refundable deposits on all bottles.
